Learning Enrichment

​​​Wel​​come to the Department of Learning Support, Learning Enrichment and English as an additional language or dialect (EALD).

At Our Lady's College every student is supported to fulfill their potential. This includes the gifted, EALD ​students and students with learning needs. Ou​r inclusive model of support and enrichment provides students with the opportunity to progress through core curriculum in accordance to their needs. Programs are written to target particular strengths and weaknesses of students.

The Learning Support teacher provides the following services:

  • Identification of students’ abilities through the use of formal testing together with parent information.
  • Assist staff to scaffold, modify and extend curriculum to assist students to reach their full potential.
  • Monitoring and reporting on student progress throughout Years 8 to 12 through student results, teacher observation and collaboration.

Student support is achieved by providing:

  • An inclusive model of support.
  • A focus on numeracy and literacy as the foundation of every classroom
  • School officer placement in classes to provide help to a wide range of students in a variety of subjects.
  • Assistance for students to maximize their strengths and develop strategies to improve weak areas.
  • Assistance in study management, assignment scaffolding, assignment writing and exam preparation.
  • Specialist teachers on staff
  • HEART - Homework support

Learning Enrichment is offered through:

  • Extended Curriculum options such as extension classes in Mathematics and English, as well as opportunities to enrol in university courses while completing Year 12.
  • Extension activities including enrolment in Interschool and National competitions.
  • Multiple options for presentations (based on the theory of Multiple Intelligences).
  • The teaching of higher order thinking skills , which is also assessed in most assignments.
  • Personal goal setting and time management to achieve personal bests

Our English as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D)​ program assists students to:

  • Improve their written and spoken English
  • Improve comprehension skills
  • Understand cultural differences
  • Achieve their potential​
